Thousands Flee Akobo as South Sudan Army Enforces Evacuation

Thousands of civilians have been forced to flee the town of Akobo in South Sudan after the country's army issued a mandatory evacuation order, according to UN and aid agency reports. The order comes as government forces close in on one of the last remaining strongholds of the opposition in the region.

The South Sudanese army has told the UN mission in the country, as well as all aid workers, to leave the area immediately, citing an impending military operation. This has prompted a mass exodus, with residents rushing to escape the coming violence.
