Thunderstorms Wreak Havoc in Southern France: Weather Woes Persist

Severe thunderstorms strike southern France, prompting yellow alerts. Extreme weather events also impact the US and South Africa in this comprehensive weather report.
Residents of southern France faced a turbulent few days as severe thunderstorms swept through the region, leading to yellow alerts being issued in several departments. This comes amid a period of active severe weather across different parts of the world, with the United States also experiencing its fair share of intense convective storms and record-breaking heat being recorded in certain areas of South Africa.
On Monday, March 9th, the Hérault, Var, and Alpes-Maritimes departments were placed under yellow alert for heavy rainfall, as the region grappled with the powerful thunderstorms. Some of the hardest-hit areas were within the Var department, where private weather stations reported staggering rainfall totals. In the towns of Carqueiranne and Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer, for instance, 104.4mm of rain was recorded in just seven and a half hours, and 92.7mm in three hours, respectively. However, it's worth noting that these measurements, being from private weather stations, may be subject to potential errors.
