Top Counter-Terror Official Quits Over Iran War, Sparking Controversy

A senior US counter-terrorism official has resigned, citing disagreement with the war on Iran. A Democratic lawmaker is calling for him to testify before Congress.
A top US counterterrorism official, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, has resigned from his post, citing his opposition to the ongoing war with Iran. The move has sparked calls for him to testify before Congress about his decision.
Joe Kent, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, announced his resignation on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. In his post, Kent stated that he could no longer, "in good conscience, support the ongoing war in Iran" as he believed the country "posed no imminent threat to our nation."
Kent's resignation has drawn the attention of Representative Ro Khanna, a Democratic lawmaker from California. Khanna has called for Kent to testify before Congress about the reasons behind his departure, particularly his claims regarding the threat, or lack thereof, posed by Iran.
