Tehran, Iran - In the wake of a series of assassinations targeting Iran's top officials, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has strongly defended the resilience of the country's political system. Despite the losses, he insists that Iran's leadership remains united and capable of weathering the storm.
The targeted killings have included the January 2020 drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran's elite Quds Force, and the November 2020 assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the country's top nuclear scientist. Most recently, in December 2021, a senior Revolutionary Guard general, Hassan Sayyad Khodaei, was gunned down in Tehran.
