At least 9 people dead and dozens missing as a boat capsizes off the coast of Djibouti. Rescue efforts underway, but UN warns this is just the start of the deadliest season on this dangerous migration route.
Djibouti - In a devastating incident, a boat carrying migrants has sunk off the coast of Djibouti, leaving at least nine people dead and dozens more missing, according to authorities. The rescue operation has so far recovered 266 survivors from the ill-fated vessel, but the United Nations warns that this is just the beginning of the deadliest season on this treacherous migration route.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reported that the boat was carrying migrants, mainly from Ethiopia, when it capsized in the Gulf of Aden. The incident occurred near the town of Obock, a known departure point for migrants and refugees attempting to reach Yemen and beyond.
