A devastating incident has come to light in New South Wales, where a 47-year-old Aboriginal woman, Tammy Shipley, died in custody due to water intoxication. According to a coronial inquest, Shipley was recorded on CCTV drinking at least 67 cups of water in a 12-hour period before her tragic passing at the Silverwater women's correctional center on December 20, 2022.
Disturbing Details Emerge
Shipley, a mother of five, was being held on remand for minor shoplifting charges when the incident occurred. The coroner will now examine whether the police informed the prison staff about Shipley's acute mental health conditions, despite her previous arrest under the Mental Health Act.
