Trump Lauds Gulf States for 'Tremendous' Iran Support
President Trump hails the 'brilliant' reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as a victory for the world, citing the 'tremendous' assistance from Gulf nations.
President Donald Trump praised Gulf states for their tremendous support as Iran fully opened the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, a move he described as a 'great and brilliant day for the world'.
The decision by Iran to allow unfettered access through the strait, which is a vital global maritime chokepoint, comes after months of heightened tensions in the region. Trump was quick to credit the Gulf Cooperation Council nations for their assistance in bringing about this diplomatic breakthrough.
In a statement to reporters, the President said: "This is a tremendous victory for peace and stability in the region. I want to thank our friends in the Gulf for their unwavering support and commitment to this process. Without their help, we may not have reached this point."
The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is responsible for the transit of about a third of the world's seaborne oil exports, is seen as a significant geopolitical shift. For months, the narrow waterway had been the site of escalating tensions, with Iran threatening to block passage and the United States vowing to keep the strait open by force if necessary.
Analysts say the breakthrough is the result of behind-the-scenes diplomacy led by the Trump administration, which worked closely with Gulf Arab allies to apply economic and political pressure on Iran. The Gulf states, particularly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, have been critical partners in this effort.
"This is a major victory for global energy security and the free flow of commerce," said Middle East expert Jason Bordoff. "The President deserves credit for marshaling an international coalition to address this threat."
However, some critics argue that the resolution of the Hormuz crisis merely pauses the underlying tensions in the region, which could flare up again. They warn that a lasting peace will require more comprehensive diplomatic efforts to address the root causes of instability.
Nonetheless, Trump appeared jubilant about the development, declaring it a triumph for his administration's foreign policy approach. "This will be a great and brilliant day for the world," he said. "I'm proud of what we've accomplished here."
