Trump-Pardoned Capitol Rioter Sentenced to Life for Child Molestation
Andrew Paul Johnson, a 45-year-old Florida handyman, has been sentenced to life in prison for the sexual assault of two children. What makes this case particularly noteworthy is that Johnson was previously convicted of storming the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, but was later pardoned by former President Donald Trump.
Johnson is one of several January 6 defendants who have now been charged with new crimes since Trump's sweeping act of clemency for Capitol rioters. On his first day back in the White House last year, Trump pardoned, commuted prison sentences for or ordered the dismissal of cases for all 1,500-plus people charged in the attack on the US Capitol.
