Trump's DOJ Charges Comey Over Instagram Post

Former FBI Director James Comey faces new criminal charges filed by Trump's Justice Department over a controversial Instagram post featuring seashells arranged as numbers.
In a striking development that underscores the intensifying political tensions in Washington, the Justice Department has filed new criminal charges against James Comey, the former FBI director who led the bureau during the early years of Donald Trump's presidency. The charges, filed on Tuesday in federal court located in the eastern district of North Carolina, represent yet another flashpoint in the contentious relationship between the Trump administration and its perceived political opponents.
The criminal indictment centers on a photograph that Comey posted to Instagram while vacationing last year. In the image, seashells were deliberately arranged on a beach to spell out the numbers "86 47." According to prosecutors, the post constituted a threat against Donald Trump, the current 47th president of the United States. The number 86 has long been used as slang or shorthand for "getting rid of" something or someone, making the arrangement appear deliberately provocative to Trump's supporters and legal team.
Comey, who has maintained a relatively low public profile since leaving his position as FBI director in 2017, quickly moved to address the controversy surrounding his Instagram post. He subsequently deleted the image from his social media account and issued a formal apology, claiming that he had not intended any violent implications with his post. In his statement, Comey expressed that he was unaware the numbers carried any association with violence or threats, characterizing the arrangement as innocent in nature.
