Trump's Ideological Latin America Summit: Courting Rightwing Allies

Trump hosts Latin American leaders at a Florida resort, exposing his efforts to reshape regional influence and counter China's growing presence.
As Donald Trump continues his quest to transform the US's standing in Latin America and outmaneuver China's growing influence in the region, the president will welcome the leaders of at least 10 Latin American countries to a palm-dotted golf resort in Miami on Saturday. This high-profile summit marks the latest chapter in Trump's dramatic and at times deadly crusade to, as the Pentagon chief, Pete Hegseth, put it, "reclaim our back yard".
The guest list for this gathering, however, has drawn criticism from experts who view it as an "ideological guest list" rather than a genuine attempt to engage with the region. The omission of the presidents of Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, key regional players, exposes the failure of Trump's "theatrical" doctrine, they say.
