Trump's 'Jolene Doctrine': Retired General's Criticism of Foreign Policy

A retired US Army general likens Trump's 'bellicose' foreign policy to the lyrics of Dolly Parton's 'Jolene', highlighting a 'we should do because we can' approach.
Trump's foreign policy during his second presidency has been widely criticized, and now a retired US Army general has likened it to the lyrics of Dolly Parton's classic song 'Jolene'. Stanley McChrystal, who once led NATO forces in Afghanistan, says the White House has a 'we should do because we can' approach to international relations.
McChrystal made the remarks on Friday at Tulane University's New Orleans book festival, during a fireside chat hosted by the editor-in-chief of the Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg. Goldberg asked McChrystal about US military strikes that Trump has ordered in Nigeria, Venezuela and Iran since Christmas.
