As the countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026 intensifies, the final qualification spots are about to be determined through a series of high-stakes playoffs organized by UEFA and the Intercontinental system. This crucial stage of the qualification process will see nations from across Europe and other regions battle it out for the coveted spots in the world's most prestigious football tournament.
UEFA Playoffs
The UEFA playoffs will feature twelve teams, including the ten group runners-up from the European qualification campaign, as well as the two best group winners from the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League who did not qualify directly for the World Cup. These twelve teams will be divided into three paths, with each path featuring four teams competing in single-leg semifinals and finals.
The three path winners will secure their spots at the World Cup 2026. The playoffs are scheduled to take place in March 2026, with the exact dates yet to be confirmed by UEFA.
