UK Government Sees Unexpected Surge in February Borrowing

New data from the ONS reveals higher-than-expected government borrowing in February, as rising tax receipts were offset by increased spending.
The UK government's borrowing levels in February were higher than anticipated, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The surge in borrowing was driven by a combination of increased tax receipts and a rise in government spending during the month.
The ONS reported that public sector net borrowing, excluding public sector banks, reached £27.8 billion in February. This was significantly higher than the £21.3 billion recorded in the same month a year earlier, and also exceeded economists' forecasts.
