Ukraine Ceasefire Stalls as US Commitment Wavers, Casualties Mount

Divisions between Washington and Europe hamper efforts to end the war in Ukraine as Russia's offensive continues and casualties surge.
Ukraine's push for a ceasefire has largely stalled as the United States' security guarantees fade and casualties from the ongoing conflict continue to rise. Tensions between Washington and European capitals have fueled concerns over the US commitment to a peaceful resolution to the war.
Despite Volodymyr Zelenskyy's pleas to draw attention to the war in his country, efforts to end the conflict have largely ground to a halt since the outbreak of the Iran war in 2026. Trilateral talks between Kyiv, Moscow, and Washington, which had already yielded little progress, have been frozen since February 2026.
