Ukraine Reclaims Southern Ground as Russia's Invasion Drags On

Ukraine's military forces have achieved limited territorial gains in recent months, exposing cracks in Russia's offensive capabilities as the war enters its fifth year.
As the war in Ukraine grinds on into its fifth year, the country's military forces have managed to claw back some territory in the south, highlighting weaknesses in Russia's offensive abilities. In December and February, Ukraine made limited but significant gains, reclaiming small pockets of land and dealing a blow to Moscow's war efforts.
These successes come amid a broader stalemate on the frontlines, with neither side able to achieve a decisive breakthrough. However, the Ukrainian advances demonstrate that Russia's military machine is not invincible, and that the Kremlin's ambitions to seize and hold Ukrainian territory may be faltering.
The recent Ukrainian gains, while modest in scale, are nonetheless important symbolically and strategically. They suggest that the Ukrainian armed forces, bolstered by Western military aid, are becoming increasingly adept at launching counteroffensives and pushing back against Russian forces.
