Ukrainian Drones Disrupt Russian LNG Transport and Civilian Sites

Exclusive coverage of Ukraine's drone attacks on a sanctioned Russian LNG tanker in the Mediterranean and civilian sites in southern Russia, shaking global energy markets.
Ukrainian drones have reportedly struck a Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier in the Mediterranean Sea, as well as civilian sites in southern Russia, in a significant escalation of the conflict. These attacks come amidst a prolonged energy crisis that may offer the Russian war machine an unexpected economic lifeline.
According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Arctic Metagaz, a Russian LNG tanker carrying 61,000 tonnes of the fuel, was hit by Ukrainian drones off the coast of Libya on Tuesday night. The explosion and subsequent sinking of the vessel have disrupted global energy supply chains, as the ship had been under US and EU sanctions.
Ukraine has not officially commented on the LNG tanker attack, but Roman Busgarin, the governor of Russia's Saratov region, has confirmed that Ukrainian drones also targeted civilian sites in the area, including the local airport. Three people were reported injured in the strikes, which led to the temporary closure of several airports in southern and central Russia.
