Ukrainian President Visits Front Line as Prisoner Swap Boosts Hopes

Zelenskyy's trip to the front lines and a prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia provide rare positive developments amid stalled peace talks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited front-line positions in the country's east, a symbolic show of support for troops as his government and Russia completed a prisoner swap that saw 500 captives exchanged on each side.
The prisoner exchange, which took place over two days, is one of the few tangible results to emerge from peace talks that have largely stalled amid the broader geopolitical turmoil in the Middle East.
Zelenskyy's trip to the Donetsk region, near the Russian-occupied territories, came as Ukrainian and Russian negotiators made little progress in their latest round of talks. The Ukrainian leader has frequently visited military positions since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
