UN Demands Accountability for Israel's Torture of Palestinians

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese condemns Israel's use of torture against Palestinians, calling it state policy that has gone unchecked by the international community.
In a scathing rebuke of Israel's human rights record, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has accused the country of effectively having a 'licence to torture' Palestinians with impunity. Albanese's comments come amidst growing international pressure on Israel to address its treatment of the Palestinian people, which many human rights organizations have decried as a systematic pattern of abuse.
Albanese, who was appointed as the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, stated that torture has 'effectively become state policy' in Israel. She went on to say that the international community has given Israel a 'licence' to engage in such practices without fear of meaningful consequence.
