UN Powerless to Halt Iran's Dangerous Aggression in the Gulf

Qatar condemns Iran's drone and missile strikes across the Gulf as a 'clear violation of international law' that the UN has failed to stop, sending a dangerous signal.
Qatar, a close U.S. ally in the Gulf region, has strongly condemned Iran's recent drone and missile strikes across the Gulf as a "clear violation of international law". The Qatari envoy to the United Nations warned that the UN's failure to take action against these attacks is sending a "dangerous signal" that could further embolden Iran to escalate its aggression.
In a statement, the Qatari representative argued that Iran's cross-border strikes, which have targeted both civilian and military sites in countries like Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, represent a serious threat to regional stability and security. "These attacks are a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of these countries," the envoy said, urging the UN Security Council to take "concrete action" to hold Iran accountable and deter further such destabilizing behavior.

These incidents have stoked fears of a wider conflict erupting in the already volatile Gulf region, where tensions between Iran and its regional foes like Saudi Arabia and the UAE remain high.
Critics have accused the United Nations of failing to take meaningful action to address Iran's destabilizing activities, arguing that the organization's inability to impose consequences for such violations of international law has only emboldened the Iranian regime to continue its aggressive behavior with impunity.

"This is a threat not just to the countries directly targeted, but to regional and global stability as a whole."
The UN Security Council has so far refrained from taking substantive action against Iran for its cross-border strikes, despite calls from Gulf nations and other US allies to do so. This inaction, according to critics, has only served to embolden the Iranian regime and weaken the credibility of the United Nations as an institution capable of maintaining international peace and security.
