UN Pushes to End Global Slavery Crisis with Landmark Resolution

The UN's historic resolution condemns slavery as a crime against humanity, but experts warn that substantive action is needed to eradicate this widespread issue worldwide.
The United Nations has taken a major step in the global fight against modern slavery, passing a landmark resolution that declares the practice a grave crime against humanity. The resolution, adopted unanimously by the UN General Assembly, calls on member states to strengthen efforts to identify, prevent and end all forms of slavery, including human trafficking, forced labor, and child exploitation.
While the historic declaration represents an important symbolic gesture, experts caution that much more substantive action will be required to truly eradicate slavery worldwide. According to the International Labor Organization, an estimated 40 million people are currently trapped in modern slavery, with women and children disproportionately affected.
