A recent case involving two Venezuelan men in Minneapolis has exposed the ongoing challenges surrounding accountability within the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. The incident, which unfolded on January 14th during the height of Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, has sparked renewed calls for greater transparency and oversight within the agency.
The events began when ICE deportation officers attempted to stop a car, identifying the owner as an unauthorized immigrant. The driver, Alfredo Aljorna, a Venezuelan national, fled the scene, reaching speeds of up to 80mph before crashing into a parked car. Aljorna then ran towards an apartment building where his roommate, Julio Sosa Celis, was standing at the entrance holding a snow shovel.
