US Envoy in Paris Faces Backlash After Snubbing Meeting

The US ambassador to France banned from meeting French officials after failing to explain controversial comments about far-right activist's killing.
In a diplomatic row that has escalated tensions between the US and France, the American ambassador to Paris has been banned from meeting with French government ministers after he failed to show up for a meeting at the foreign ministry. The meeting had been called to address controversial comments made by the US embassy regarding the recent killing of a far-right activist in the country.
Charles Kushner, who is the US ambassador and the father-in-law of President Trump's daughter Ivanka, was summoned to a 7 pm meeting by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. The meeting was intended to provide an explanation for the US embassy's reposting of State Department statements about the case of Quentin Deranque, the far-right activist who was killed.
