US Defense Secretary confirms first US attack on Iranian forces outside Middle East during ongoing conflict.
In a dramatic escalation of the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, the US has carried out a submarine torpedo strike that sank an Iranian warship off the southern coast of Sri Lanka, according to US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
The strike, which occurred in international waters close to the Sri Lankan coast, marks the first direct US attack on Iranian forces outside the Middle East region since the start of the conflict. Hegseth confirmed that the US was behind the deadly attack on the Iranian frigate, known as the Iris Dena, which was traveling near the Sri Lankan coastline.
