Social media giants have been accused by Members of Parliament (MPs) of being complacent in their efforts to tackle online harms, including the spread of misinformation about the Iran war, the use of political deepfakes that could threaten elections, and the continued enablement of AI technology to nudify young girls.

In a testy parliamentary hearing, representatives from X, TikTok, and Meta (the parent company of Facebook) outlined the measures they have taken to address these issues, but were told by MPs:
