Cambodia's Cyber Crackdown: Fact or Fiction?

Cambodia claims a major drop in cybercrime, but experts warn the country's scam hubs still thrive. Explore the reality behind Cambodia's cybercrime crackdown claims.
Cambodia, long considered a global hub for cybercrime, has claimed to be making significant strides in dismantling the infamous cyber-scam compounds that have plagued the country for years. However, analysts and experts are warning that there is little tangible evidence to support the government's assertions that cybercrime has been reduced by as much as 50%.
The Cambodian government has touted its crackdown on these scam operations, which have lured thousands of foreign workers, many from China, to engage in a wide range of online fraud and extortion schemes. Officials claim that through a series of raids and arrests, they have effectively curbed the activities of these criminal enterprises.
Yet, according to cybersecurity experts and human rights groups, the reality on the ground tells a different story. They argue that while some smaller-scale operations may have been dismantled, the larger, more sophisticated scam networks continue to thrive, often with the tacit approval or even direct involvement of corrupt government officials.
