Saipan, CNMI - The U.S. Coast Guard has spotted an overturned vessel during their ongoing search for a missing cargo ship that experienced engine failure in the midst of a powerful typhoon near the island of Saipan. The 145-foot dry cargo vessel, the Mariana, went missing on April 15th after reporting engine trouble as the massive storm bore down on the region.
Coast Guard crews aboard an HC-130 Hercules aircraft spotted the overturned vessel on Saturday, April 18th, approximately 20 miles north of Saipan. The discovery has heightened concerns for the fate of the Mariana's crew, who have not been heard from since their initial distress call. Authorities are now focused on locating any potential survivors from the capsized ship.
