England's Homelessness Crisis Reaches New High

New official figures show a 3% increase in rough sleepers in England, with over 4,700 people spending the night on the streets in autumn 2025.
England is facing a deepening homelessness crisis, with the latest official statistics revealing a record number of rough sleepers on the streets last year. According to the government's figures, an estimated 4,793 people spent the night in tents, doorways, and parks on a single night in autumn 2025, representing a 3% increase from the previous year.
This latest figure surpasses the previous peak of 4,751 rough sleepers recorded in 2017, underscoring the worsening homelessness situation in the country. However, charities believe these official numbers underestimate the true scale of the crisis, as many individuals experiencing homelessness go uncounted in these periodic snapshot surveys.
