Experts Urge Ofcom to Clarify Ruling on Palestine Action Content

Rights groups and experts call on Ofcom to provide guidance on online removal of Palestine Action content after high court ruled ban was unlawful.
Ofcom, the UK's media regulator, is being urged by rights groups, academics, and writers to clarify the implications of a recent high court ruling that deemed the ban on Palestine Action unlawful. The ruling has created uncertainty around the removal of the group's content from online platforms, as they are typically required to take down terrorist-related material under the Online Safety Act.
In February 2026, the high court ruled that the ban on Palestine Action was unlawful, a decision that the Home Secretary is now appealing against. The Metropolitan Police have stated that they will no longer arrest people at protests who express support for the direct action group. However, the signatories of a letter to Ofcom say it is unclear what this will mean for online platforms that have a duty to remove terrorist content under the Online Safety Act.
