Fight for $30: Minimum Wage Campaigns Gain Momentum Across US

As workers battle high costs of living, campaigns for a $30 minimum wage by 2030 are gaining steam in New York and California.
Oakland and New York campaigns for a $30 minimum wage by 2030 are gaining momentum as workers struggle with the rising costs of living. Mark Dorsey, a 35-year-old lifelong East Oakland resident, works two jobs to make ends meet, often earning minimum wage or close to it. The current minimum wage in Oakland is $17.34 an hour, and in California, it's $16.90 an hour, but Dorsey says it's still not enough to support himself.
Dorsey relies on manufacturing and service work through temp agencies, trying to work overtime or 10- to 12-hour shifts to see a paycheck that's worth something.
