Florida's Former AG Subpoenaed Over Controversial Epstein Files

In a move that could shed further light on the controversial handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case, a House panel has voted to subpoena former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. The subpoena seeks documents and testimony related to Bondi's role in the state's investigation into the disgraced financier, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
The House Judiciary Committee's decision comes after years of scrutiny over the sweetheart plea deal Epstein received in 2008, which allowed him to serve just 13 months in county jail despite allegations of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls. Bondi, who served as Florida's top prosecutor from 2011 to 2019, has faced criticism for her office's involvement in the case and alleged failure to properly pursue justice for Epstein's victims.
During her time as attorney general, Bondi was accused of accepting a $25,000 campaign donation from Epstein in 2013, shortly before her office decided not to pursue charges against him. While Bondi has denied any wrongdoing, the circumstances have raised questions about potential conflicts of interest and whether political considerations played a role in the handling of the case.
