Pam Bondi, the former Attorney General of Florida, has been removed from her position by the Trump administration amidst ongoing criticism over her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Bondi, who served as Florida's top law enforcement officer from 2011 to 2019, has faced intense scrutiny in Washington for her role in the Epstein case, with many alleging that she failed to properly investigate the late financier and sex offender.
The Trump administration announced Bondi's departure on Friday, citing a need for "new leadership" in the administration's legal and policy team. Bondi, who was appointed to a senior advisory role in the White House shortly after leaving her position as Attorney General, will now be leaving her post entirely, marking a sudden and unexpected end to her time in the Trump administration.
Bondi's removal comes as the Jeffrey Epstein scandal continues to reverberate through the highest levels of government. Epstein, a wealthy financier with ties to numerous high-profile politicians and celebrities, was arrested in July 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges. He died in jail a month later, with his death ruled a suicide by the New York City Medical Examiner's Office.
