Fugitive Brazilian Ex-Spy Chief Arrested in the US: ICE Crackdown

Former Brazilian intelligence chief Alexandre Ramagem has been detained by ICE in the United States. Brazil has officially requested his extradition as he faces criminal charges back home.
Alexandre Ramagem, the former head of Brazil's intelligence agency, has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the United States. This follows a formal extradition request from the Brazilian government in December, seeking to bring Ramagem back to face criminal charges in his home country.
Ramagem, who led Brazil's Institutional Security Cabinet (GSI) until 2020, is wanted by Brazilian authorities on corruption allegations. He is accused of involvement in a wide-ranging bribery and influence-peddling scheme that has rocked the highest levels of the Brazilian government.
The arrest of the high-profile fugitive is a significant development in the ongoing corruption investigation in Brazil, known as Operation Car Wash. Ramagem's detention marks a victory for Brazilian prosecutors who have been working to extradite him and bring him to justice.
