Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan Reaches Catastrophic Levels, NGO Warns

A leading NGO reports that people with disabilities in Sudan are facing extreme hardships as the country battles war and a worsening humanitarian crisis.
The humanitarian situation in Sudan has reached catastrophic levels, according to a leading non-governmental organization (NGO) that works to support people with disabilities in crisis-affected regions. Humanity & Inclusion, a global disability-focused aid group, has sounded the alarm on the dire conditions facing civilians, particularly those with disabilities, amid the ongoing conflict and collapsing infrastructure in the East African nation.
Sudan has been in the grip of a severe political and economic crisis for years, with the country's military taking control in a 2021 coup that derailed a fragile transition to democracy. The coup and subsequent unrest have exacerbated an already dire humanitarian situation, with millions of people in need of urgent assistance for food, shelter, and healthcare.
According to Humanity & Inclusion, people with disabilities are bearing the brunt of the crisis, facing extreme challenges in accessing essential services and resources. "The situation is catastrophic," said Kadmiel Yohannes, the organization's country director for Sudan. "People with disabilities are among the most vulnerable, and they're being left behind."
