Majority of Americans Blame Trump Tariffs for Higher Prices

A new poll reveals that 7 in 10 Americans believe Trump's tariffs have led to higher prices, creating a political challenge for Republicans ahead of midterm elections.
A recent exclusive poll conducted by The Harris Poll has revealed that a majority of Americans, 7 in 10, believe that President Trump's tariffs have resulted in them paying higher prices for goods and services.
The findings present a significant political challenge for the Republican party as they head into the upcoming midterm elections. The survey shows that 72% of all voters feel that Trump's tariffs have had a negative impact, rather than a positive one, and 67% say tariffs are not the right solution for improving the economy.

Notably, the negative sentiment spans across party lines, with 64% of Republicans agreeing that Trump's tariffs have led to higher prices, compared to 77% of Democrats and 67% of independents who believe the same.
Furthermore, 60% of Republicans said that tariffs have had more of a negative impact on consumers than a positive one, while 81% of Democrats and 75% of independents shared this view.
The White House has doubled down on its tariff policies, despite the widespread negative perception among the American public. This poll highlights the political risks the administration faces as it continues to push forward with its trade war tactics, which have drawn criticism from both sides of the aisle.
As the midterm elections approach, the economic impacts of Trump's tariffs are likely to be a key issue that both parties will have to grapple with in their campaigns and messaging to voters.
