New UK Streaming Regulations Aim to Safeguard Viewers

UK government rolls out enhanced Ofcom oversight for top video-on-demand platforms, focusing on child protection and vulnerable user safeguards.
In a move to strengthen consumer protections, the UK government has announced a new regulatory framework for the country's largest video-on-demand (VoD) services. Under the implementation of the Media Act, these platforms will now fall under the oversight of media regulator Ofcom, giving the organization expanded powers to enforce content standards and user safety measures.
The goal of this regulatory shift is to provide enhanced safeguards for children and vulnerable viewers accessing VoD content, which has seen exponential growth in recent years. Ofcom will now be empowered to set and enforce rules around harmful or inappropriate material, ensuring a safer online media landscape for British audiences.
