Senators Demand Public Hearings on Iran Conflict

Democratic senators file new war power resolutions, call for public hearings on Trump allies' role in potential US-Iran war.
Senators are demanding that Republicans convene public hearings into the US hostilities with Iran, or be forced to vote on continuing a conflict that polls show majorities of Americans do not support.
Late last week, Democratic Senators Cory Booker, Tim Kaine, Adam Schiff, Tammy Baldwin, and Chris Murphy filed resolutions under the War Powers Act that would force the US military to withdraw from the war with Iran unless Congress votes to authorize the engagement.
The Senators say Trump allies such as Pete Hegseth and Marco Rubio should be forced to testify to Congress on what they call an "unnecessary war".

"Congress has a responsibility to exercise its constitutional authority over matters of war and peace," said Senator Kaine. "We cannot allow the executive branch to drag us into an unnecessary conflict with Iran without the consent of the American people."

With public opinion turning against further entanglement in the Middle East, Democrats are hoping to harness that sentiment to force a reckoning in Congress. They want to compel Trump allies to publicly defend the administration's Iran policy and potentially face a vote that could curtail the president's war powers.
