Sudan's War Enters Fourth Year: Military Impasse and Humanitarian Crisis

After three years of conflict, the Sudanese military and RSF remain locked in a stalemate, with neither side gaining a decisive advantage as the humanitarian situation deteriorates.
The war in Sudan has now entered its fourth year, with the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia locked in a military impasse that has left the country in a dire humanitarian crisis. Neither side has been able to achieve a decisive victory, despite the ongoing violence and casualties that have plagued the nation since the conflict began in 2020.
The roots of the conflict can be traced back to the 2019 coup that ousted long-time president Omar al-Bashir, leading to a power-sharing agreement between the military and civilian groups. However, tensions between the two factions eventually boiled over into open armed conflict in April 2020.
