Top Trump Official Resigns Over Iran War Tensions

Joe Kent, a former Green Beret and the highest-ranking Trump administration official to resign over the president's confrontational approach to Iran, has stepped down from his post as White House counterterrorism chief. Kent's departure marks a significant shift in the president's inner circle as tensions between the US and Iran continue to simmer.

Kent, who had served in the administration since 2017, cited Trump's decision to order the killing of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani as a key reason for his resignation. The January 2020 drone strike, which dramatically escalated tensions between Washington and Tehran, was a move that Kent strongly disagreed with.
