Trans Activists Demand Inclusive Progress Flag at Stonewall

Trans activists criticize the decision to raise the traditional rainbow Pride flag instead of the more inclusive Progress flag at the iconic Stonewall Inn, arguing it excludes the trans community.
In a powerful act of protest, thousands of activists gathered outside the iconic Stonewall Inn last week to re-raise the rainbow Pride flag in defiance of the Trump administration's recent removal of the flag. However, this moment of LGBTQ+ solidarity was met with deep disappointment from trans activists who felt their community was once again excluded.
The choice to display the traditional rainbow Pride flag, rather than the newer Progress pride flag which includes additional symbols for trans and BIPOC identities, was seen by many as an erasure of the hard-won rights and visibility of transgender individuals. As the LGBTQ+ community comes together to affirm its ongoing fight for equality, trans activists argue that the Progress flag is a necessary representation of the diverse experiences and intersectionality within the movement.
