Trump Threatens Iran over Hormuz Strait: Obliteration Warning

President Trump warns Iran that he will 'obliterate' their power plants if they don't open the critical Strait of Hormuz waterway. Tensions escalate as the US-Iran standoff intensifies.
President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, threatening to 'obliterate' the country's power plants if Tehran fails to keep the Strait of Hormuz open for international shipping.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global maritime chokepoint, through which a significant portion of the world's oil and gas supplies transit. Iran has repeatedly threatened to close the strait in response to heightened US sanctions and tensions between the two nations.
In a series of tweets, Trump warned that if Iran were to block the Strait of Hormuz, he would order the 'obliteration' of the country's power plants and other 'important sites.'
'Iran's very ignorant and insulting statement, put out today, only shows that they do not understand reality,' Trump wrote on Twitter. 'Any attack by Iran on anything American will be met with great and overwhelming force. In some areas, overwhelming will mean obliteration.'
The US President's comments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, which have escalated since the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018 and the subsequent re-imposition of sanctions on the Iranian economy.
Iran has responded by exceeding limits on its uranium enrichment and threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz if its oil exports are blocked. The US has also bolstered its military presence in the Persian Gulf region in recent months.
The Trump administration has accused Iran of being behind a series of attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman in recent weeks, a claim that Iran has denied.
Tensions in the region remain high, with both sides refusing to back down and the potential for a military conflict looming large. Trump's latest threat is likely to further escalate the crisis and increase the risk of a potentially devastating confrontation.
