UK Firms in Middle East Brace for Heightened Cyber Threats from Iran

National Cyber Security Centre warns UK businesses with Middle East presence to increase vigilance against potential cyber attacks from Iranian hacktivists amid escalating regional tensions.
UK businesses with a presence in the Middle East have been urged to step up vigilance against cyber threats from Iran after recent US-Israeli attacks.
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) said there was "almost certainly" a heightened risk of an indirect cyber threat for organizations that had offices or supply chains in the Middle East.
The warning comes as tensions in the region have escalated following a series of military strikes against Iranian targets by the US and Israel.

The agency warned that Iranian hacktivists may attempt to retaliate indirectly through cyber attacks on organizations with ties to the region.
"While we have not seen any specific threats, the NCSC is almost certain that the risk of indirect cyber attacks has been heightened due to the current tensions," the agency said. "We encourage affected organizations to review their cyber security measures and be extra vigilant."

Iran-linked hackers have been blamed for a number of high-profile cyber attacks targeting organizations in the region and beyond.
Experts say Iranian hacktivists may attempt to retaliate against UK companies with ties to the Middle East as a way to indirectly strike back at the US and Israel amid the escalating regional tensions. The NCSC urged affected organizations to remain vigilant and review their cyber security measures accordingly.
