The United Kingdom has taken a strong stance at the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, delivering a compelling statement during the Interactive Dialogue on the ongoing situation in Syria. Kumar Iyer, the UK's Permanent Representative to the WTO and UN, delivered the statement, highlighting the urgent need for accountability and a lasting solution to the humanitarian crisis that has devastated the Syrian people.
In his address, Iyer emphasized the UK's unwavering commitment to supporting the work of the Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic, which has been instrumental in documenting the atrocities and human rights abuses committed throughout the conflict. He expressed the UK's grave concern over the continued violence and the targeting of civilians, including the use of indiscriminate attacks, arbitrary detentions, and torture.
