US Grants Access to Venezuelan Gold After High-Level Meeting

The US has issued a limited licence allowing some activity in Venezuela's gold sector following a high-level diplomatic visit. This is part of efforts to open the resource-rich country to foreign investment.
Washington has granted a limited licence for certain activities in Venezuela's gold sector, following a recent high-level diplomatic visit to the country. This move is part of a broader push by the US to open up Venezuela's resource-rich economy to outside investment.
The licence was issued by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which oversees sanctions on Venezuela. It allows a handful of US and international firms to engage in a limited set of transactions related to the country's gold sector.
This comes after a visit to Venezuela by a senior US delegation, including officials from the State Department and the National Security Council. The high-level talks were aimed at exploring ways to ease the political and economic crisis in the oil-rich nation.
