Zoom Court Chaos: Judge Slams Defendant Joining Hearing While Driving

A Michigan judge lost his cool when a defendant showed up late to a Zoom court hearing - while driving a car. The case highlights the challenges of remote legal proceedings.
Zoom Court Chaos: A local judge in Woodhaven, Michigan, was fuming this week when a defendant joined her court hearing remotely - while behind the wheel of a moving vehicle.
The defendant, Kimberly Carroll, was facing a hearing over a few thousand dollars she allegedly owed and had defaulted on. She was allowed to attend the proceedings via Zoom, but when the hearing began, Carroll was nowhere to be found on the video call.
When Carroll finally joined the Zoom session, Judge Michael McNally immediately demanded she turn on her camera. To the judge's shock and dismay, it became clear that Carroll was driving a car while participating in the court hearing.
