Chippenham Farm Fined Over £18K for Devastating River Pollution

A Chippenham farm partnership was hit with heavy fines and legal costs after two separate slurry pollution incidents that severely impacted the Bristol Avon river.
Chippenham, Wiltshire - In a concerning turn of events, the JD Spencer Farm Partnership has been slapped with hefty fines and legal costs totaling over £18,000 for their involvement in two separate slurry pollution incidents that devastated the Bristol Avon river. The incidents, which occurred at the farm's operations, have highlighted the significant environmental and financial consequences that can arise from such environmental breaches.
The first incident took place in January 2020, where a slurry spill from the farm's storage lagoon entered a tributary of the Bristol Avon, causing significant damage to the local ecosystem. This led to a £7,000 fine being imposed on the farm partnership. To make matters worse, the farm was then hit with an additional £8,944 in legal costs, further compounding the financial burden.
